#16 Football Team Falls To Alfred 28-17

Senior Brett Kitenplon became Ithaca's career scoring leader
Alfred, N.Y. – The 16th-ranked Bombers fell to Alfred 28-17 Saturday. Alfred improved to 7-2 and  4-1 in the Empire 8, while Ithaca fell to 7-2 and 4-2 in conference play.
 
Ithaca held a 17-7 lead in the second quarter before the host Saxons scored the game's last 21 points on thir way to their first win over the Bombers since 1995. Sophomore tailback Justin Kulp (Southern Lehigh/Coopersburg, Pa.) capped Ithaca's opening drive with a one-yard touchdown run and caught a one-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Dan Juvan (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) in the second quarter. The touchdown reception came on his first career catch.

Senior Brett Kitenplon (Admiral Farragut/Seminold, Fla.) kicked extra points after both Bomber touchdowns and added a 21-yard field goal. He raised his career total to 273 points, passing three-time all-American fullback Jeff Wittman (1989-92) to become Ithaca's all-time scoring leader. The field goal was Kitenplon's fifth straight (matching the third-longest streak by a Bomber kicker) and his ninth of the season, tying Ithaca's single-seaosn record.

Senior cornerback #Dane Hewlett# (Abington Heights/Clarks Summit, Pa.) intercepted a pair of passes . Junior strong safety Ryan Terlecki (Pennsbury/Fairless Hills, Pa.) recorded a game-high 11 tackles. Junior linebacker Mike Nowak (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), senior free safety Charlie Stephens (Staples/Westport, Conn.), senior defensive end Dave Celeste (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda) and junior nose guard Phil Byers (Gates-Chili/Rochester) recorded seven tackles apiece.

Juvan completed 18 of 34 passes. Senior Alex Baez (Patchogue-Medford/Medford) ran for a team-best 67 yards on 10 carries. Senior Jamie Donovan (Sidwell Friends/Washington, D.C.) gained 50 yards.
 
The Bombers close out the regular season Saturday at Cortland in the annual Cortaca Jug game. The game has been sold out for nearly two weeks.
